If you’ve seen people use the abbreviation h/t on Google+ and wondered what it means, it’s short for hat tip.
If you share a post that someone else reshared, the original source of the update is included but the person that you found it via doesn’t automatically get acknowledged.
You can acknowledge the person who you found the update via by +mentioning them.
Or, you can acknowledge the person you found the update via by adding ‘h/t +PersonsName’, effectively giving them a “hat tip” for helping you find the update.
Here’s an example.
The post in the screen shot below was me sharing a post by +Minipet.
+Sophisticat Resort found the update via me and reshared it. As you can see in the screen shot below my text wasn’t included when they reshared it, but they added the h/t to acknowledge me.
