Watch this hilarious video by Google Analytics on “Google Analytics in Real Life – Online Shopping”. It looks at what the world would be like if it was as hard to checkout at the supermarket as it is from some online stores.
Although this video is an oldie, it’s still a goodie! And still relevant.
Some online stores have made progress in improving their check out process, but some still make it way too difficult and, like in the video, have unexpected costs added on at the end of the transaction.
Some of my tips for easy eCommerce transactions:
- Once people have added an item to their Cart, make sure they can easily find the Cart and see how to check out
- Make it easy for people to find out where you deliver to and how much the delivery cost will be, or how it will be calculated
- Limit the amount of information that you need and don’t make me enter it again if I get an error for not filling in one of the required fields. (I’ll never understand why I need to enter an Address in order to buy an online gift card!)
- Have a “save to wishlist” or similar feature so that people can easily find the product again if they don’t have time, or aren’t ready to complete the transaction.
